Could you design a fabulous mural for an external wall of Compton Hall?
For over 40 years, Compton Care has been providing specialist palliative and end of life care to patients, and support for their families from their Grade II listed building, Compton Hall.
Our figurehead building, built in 1845 has the most amazing interior design elements inspired by William Morris, a pioneer of the arts and craft movement and exemplar of design at that time.
But in 2025 it’s a time to ensure that this generation of design and aesthetics are captured at Compton Hall and guarantee that the hall remains just as contemporary in its décor today as it did back in the mid 1800’s.
To support this, we are handing over part of the building as blank canvas and inviting local artists and designers to create a mural on an external wall of the hall with an aim of providing a calm and relaxing backdrop for those who use the facilities.

The winning design will be produced as a semi-permanent installation in a key outdoor location near the main reception area and overlooked by the Inpatient Unit. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges and will be reproduced on the exterior of the building for all patients and visitors to see.
This piece of art could be a in the form of traditional artwork, graphics, text or a mixture of some or all those elements. Compton Care is looking for entries from all areas of the local art and design community.
The finished mural, which will be approximately 4×7 meters will produced and fixed to the side of a building.
The brief
