Palliative and End of Life Care Essentials for Healthcare Assistants

Made possible through the generous donation of funds, we are pleased to offer a limited number of free training places exclusively to care homes located within the following postcode areas: WV4, WV5, DY3, DY6, DY7, DY8, DY9, DY10 and DY11.
This 3-hour, online session aimed at healthcare assistants will cover the essentials of palliative and end of life care including recognising dying, nutrition, hydration and oral care at end of life. The session will also include an introduction to ReSPECT and Advance Care Planning.
Learning outcomes
- Affirm knowledge on the meaning of palliative care
- Increased understanding of the visible process of dying including common signs and symptoms
- Understand causes of loss of appetite; changes to eating and drinking
- Discuss clinically assisted nutrition and hydration; benefits and burden
- Care in the last days of life
- To understand what Advance Care Planning (ACP) is and the benefits
- To be able to understand and explain the ReSPECT process

Who should attend:
This session is aimed at Healthcare Assistants who work in care homes located within the qualifying postcode areas (WV4, WV5, DY3, DY6, DY7, DY8, DY9, DY10 and DY11).
Care Homes outside of these postcode areas should contact us by email to be added to a waiting list. Any remaining unfilled places will be offered to those on the waiting list one week prior to the advertised course date.
