Advance Care Planning and ReSPECT Authorship

Compton Hall, 4 Compton Road West, Wolverhampton, WV3 9DH
27th November 2025

Course Overview

Advance care planning is a voluntary process of person-centred discussion between an individual and their care providers about their preferences and priorities for their future care.

When advance care planning is done well, people feel they have had the opportunity to plan for their future care. They feel more confident that their care and treatment will be focused on what matters most to them if, at a future point, they are unable to fully participate in decision making. This can give them a greater sense of control of their own lives.

What will I learn from this course?

  • Knowledge of how to communicate ACP with patients and families and recognise common barriers
  • Knowledge of what ReSPECT is and be able to understand and explain the ReSPECT process
  • Good practice in practicalities and completion of ReSPECT forms

Please note that individual organisations will have guidance on who can and cannot complete ReSPECT forms and whilst this session will give you the knowledge required you will have to check and adhere to the process set by your employer.
