Walk for Compton 2024

Remember your loved ones and Walk for Compton

We are excited to welcome you to Compton Hall for our inaugural “Walk for Compton 2024”.

On Sunday 29th September, we will come together to remember and celebrate our loved ones and raise funds for patients across our communities who have been diagnosed with a life limiting condition and their families.

Walk for Compton is open to all and everyone is welcome – not just those with a connection to Compton Care.

The Event

Starting at 11am in the beautiful grounds of Compton Hall we will take in the Smestow Valley Railway Walk to Newbridge making our way around Newbridge Crescent to Compton Park, back onto the Smestow Valley to finish at Compton Hall.

The route is approximately 4.5Km long and is fully accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Dogs are welcome – we just ask that they are always kept on a lead and that you clean up after them. To ensure the route is accessible to all there will be a short diversion at Compton Park for those in wheelchairs.

Your registration pack will include:

  • A walker number
  • A ‘Walking In Memory’ back sign for you decorate if you wish and wear with pride
  • A Memory Tag for each participant and you will be welcome to place these in the Garden of Reflection at Compton Hall either before or after the walk
  • Seed paper for you to plant in a memorable place

You can also nominate a song for the memory playlist that will be played during the event. This could be a favourite song of your loved one or one that brings back special memories for you. After the event, you will receive a link to access the playlist.

Refreshments provided by Crumbles Coffee House and Deli will be available to purchase at Compton Hall. Our Nearly New store will be open too!

After Monday 5 August, tickets will be £12 per person and £50 for a group ticket.

The registration fee covers only the costs associated with putting on this event and we ask all participants to raise a minimum of £50.00 in sponsorship so that we can continue to provide free care and support to local people and families living with life limiting conditions.

Further details about the day

The Route

The route is across the Smestow Valley Railway Walk, canal towpaths and on roads/pavements at certain points. It is fully marshalled and signposted. Wheelchair users and carers are offered an alternative route from St Peter’s School on the return to Compton Hall to avoid a steep field. Please take care on all aspects of the route particularly with small children and dogs. All members of the public have access to the route.

Parking

Due to the limited availability of parking at Compton Hall, we encourage you to walk to the event where possible.

On site parking will be available blue badge holders only, and marshals will be at the entrance of Compton Hall to assist with this. Please car share where possible. Several buses from Wolverhampton bus station stop immediately outside Compton Hall.

If you do need to travel by car, our friends at the nearby Oddfellows and Westacres have kindly agreed that participants can use their car park if needed.
